About the Barre Food Pantry
The Barre Food Pantry serves anyone who seeks emergency food assistance.
To become a regular user of the Barre Food Pantry, you must:
1- Show you live in our service area of Barre, Wheelwright, New Braintree and Oakham. Any of the following can be used to show residence: A piece of mail showing name and an address in our service area; a state issued ID card or a photo ID. We do NOT require a photo ID however, though this type of ID suffices to prove residence in our service area.
2- You must self-report that you do not exceed the USDA income eligibility requirements: We do not require proof, though clients do signify they do not exceed the requirements by signing our sign-in sheet on distribution day.
We do not share personal information to any local, state or federal agencies, while we do report statistics such as residence zip code, family size, ages of members, income sources and participation in other assistance programs such as food stamps (SNAP), WIC, school breakfast and/or school lunch programs, supplemental security income though social security, fuel assistance, and aid to families with dependent children.
Those who qualify to use the food bank may also qualify for other assistance programs. The MA Dept. of Transitional Assistance has more information on those programs.
Our clients typically include those either out of regular wage earning work either through disability or involuntary unemployment, those on fixed incomes such as social security, child support/alimony, the homeless or those with no regular residence or other emergencies and circumstances that prohibit the client from earning a living wage.
February 2019 Food Pantry Distribution
The next monthly distribution will be on Wednesday, February 13th from
10:00 a.m. to noon.
Welcoming & Serving the Quabbin Area
The Food Pantry will soon be adding another monthly distribution date. Beginning on April 18th, BCCUCC and the Barre Food Pantry will be hosting an evening food pantry distribution during the church's monthly Community Friendship Supper (CFS). The CFS begins at 5:30 p.m., and is held downstairs in Fellowship Hall. We are still ironing out the details, but hope that this additional CFS evening distribution can become a monthly event. More information to come -- stay tuned!
Donations Requested. The Food Pantry could use donations of rice, canned green beans, canned tomatoes, canned beef stew, canned pasta (like Chef Boyardee), fruit juices, personal hygiene products (toothpaste, deodorant, toothbrushes, etc.), and plastic market bags. We are also looking for egg cartons -- please consider donating them to the Barre Food Pantry instead of throwing them away!
We would like to thank those of you who donate to the food pantry and to those of you who volunteer.
Next distribution date: Wednesday, February 13th. The Barre Food Pantry at the Barre Congregational Church welcomes volunteers from 9:00-10:00 a.m. and from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on the Tuesday before distribution. A third opportunity to volunteer is from 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on the day of distribution (Wednesdays).
If you are Food Pantry client and have a reusable tote bag, please don't forget to bring it along on Distribution Wednesday!
We once again need your donations of clean, empty egg cartons. The eggs we purchase each month for distribution to our clients come in bulk. Our volunteers repackage them into dozen-egg cartons for our clients. Our supply has run very low, so we need your donation of reusable cartons. You may leave cartons at our food drop-off boxes at the Barre Senior Center, Woods Memorial Library, Barre Health Center or the Barre Congregational Church. For additional information call Sonja @ (978) 355-6921 or Chuck @ (978) 355-6463.
