To become a regular user of the Barre Food Pantry, you must:
1- Show you live in our service area of Barre, Wheelwright, New Braintree and Oakham. Any of the following can be used to show residence: A piece of mail showing name and an address in our service area; a state issued ID card or a photo ID. We do NOT require a photo ID however, though this type of ID suffices to prove residence in our service area.
2- You must self-report that you do not exceed the USDA income eligibility requirements: We do not require proof, though clients do signify they do not exceed the requirements by signing our sign-in sheet on distribution day.
We do not share personal information to any local, state or federal agencies, while we do report statistics such as residence zip code, family size, ages of members, income sources and participation in other assistance programs such as food stamps (SNAP), WIC, school breakfast and/or school lunch programs, supplemental security income though social security, fuel assistance, and aid to families with dependent children.
Those who qualify to use the food bank may also qualify for other assistance programs. The MA Dept. of Transitional Assistance has more information on those programs.
Our clients typically include those either out of regular wage earning work either through disability or involuntary unemployment, those on fixed incomes such as social security, child support/alimony, the homeless or those with no regular residence or other emergencies and circumstances that prohibit the client from earning a living wage.
